“Stories can inform. But the right stories can shift perception, behaviour and systems.”
KUMBATIA is a Mozambique-based strategic communication and multimedia consultancy working at the intersection of social impact, behavioural change, inclusion and sustainable development.
Founded by Patrícia Costa, Kumbatia combines over two decades of international experience in institutional communication, stakeholder engagement, social and behaviour change communication (SBCC), audiovisual storytelling and field-based development programming across Mozambique and internationally.
Our work supports governments, international organisations, development partners, NGOs and private sector actors to communicate complex realities in ways that are human, strategic and grounded in evidence. We specialise in translating technical programmes into accessible narratives, campaigns and multimedia products that strengthen participation, visibility, accountability and social impact.
Kumbatia has worked across sectors including gender and GBV prevention, WASH, biodiversity conservation, rural development, health, livelihoods, youth inclusion and humanitarian response, supporting initiatives financed by organisations such as the World Bank, European Union, IFAD, UNIDO, IUCN and other international partners.
Our approach combines strategic thinking with deep field engagement. We believe communication is not only about visibility, but about trust, dialogue, behaviour, power and participation. For this reason, our work is rooted in community realities, cultural understanding and locally grounded storytelling.
From strategic frameworks and institutional positioning to documentaries, digital platforms, photography, radio content and social campaigns, Kumbatia develops communication solutions designed to create connection, credibility and meaningful change.
